The borough of Hopatcong hugs New Jersey’s largest lake and is just 40 miles west of New York City, making it a good place to buy if you want a vacation house—or to live full-time—within commuting distance.

There’s lots to do during the summer like boating on Lake Hopatcong, swimming at Hopatcong State Park, golfing at Lake Hopatcong Golf Club and Castle Cove Mini Golf, and boating with Lake Hopatcong Cruises (there’s a spiked seltzer cruise on Saturdays if White Claw is your thing). For a bite or drink, you can head to local spots like The Windlass, Jefferson House, and Main Lake Market, many of which are accessible by boat.

Another perk: Buying a house here is relatively affordable compared to other tri-state summer destinations: The median sales price is $381,0000 according to Realtor.com. On the market now are smaller houses near the lake and larger waterfront spreads with docks and boathouses.

So if living in Hopatcong sounds like a fit, check out these five houses for sale in the area including a lakefront four bedroom.
