The tony suburb of Greenwich, Connecticut, is home to hedge funders and other finance types living in multi-million dollar estates set on rolling acres. It also has highly-rated schools, award-winning restaurants, beaches, parks and equestrian trails. But not all of the houses there are that expensive.

Kevin Sneddon, broker at Compass who also lives in the area, says the suburb is a popular destination for wealthier families looking to relocate from the city. “About 90 percent of homebuyers from the city had never been to Connecticut before they came to see houses here,” he says.

The traditional Greenwich house is a center hall Colonial on an acre of land with an inground pool priced from $3,000,000 to $6,000,000, Sneddon says. There are also single-family houses for $1,000,000 or less—which means those buyers can enjoy the amenities of this affluent town. However, Sneddon says there’s a high demand for less expensive houses, so inventory is diminished.

You'll find options for dining and shopping along Greenwich Avenue. Popular eateries include Mediterraneo Restaurant, Abis, La Taqueria, and St. Moritz Bakery. There’s also an Apple Store, SoulCycle, Zara, Hermes, and Saks Fifth Avenue. Sneddon recommends L’Escale, a French restaurant at the Delamar Hotel, which has waterfront dining.

For nature, you can head to Bruce Park, Roger Sherman Baldwin Park, and Grass Island Dog Park. The Greenwich Riding & Trails Association preserves local horseback riding trails and there a lots of farms where you can take lessons. For more outdoor activities, there's golf at The Millbrook Club and the Greenwich Audubon Center, a nature preserve with fields, streams, and a lake.
